WolfHaven in January

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to photograph some of the wolves at WolfHaven in January with Julie Lawrence (http://www.kittymultimedia.com/) who has done amazing work there for years. A couple of the photos I came away with:

More Wolf Haven

A couple days after Howl-o-ween (actually on Halloween proper) I had the chance to take a few more photos of the wolves. Any orange bits you see in the background are pumpkin remains from the treats these guys got a couple days ago.

At Wolf Haven, we celebrate All Hallows Eve with our own special Howl-o-ween (cute, huh?). Among the festivities are treats for the wolves, namely jack-o-lanterns stuffed with meaty treats and smeared with sardine paste (yum yum). Some of the wolves lick and rub on the pumpkin for the sardines, then tear the pumpkins apart to get at the goodies. Other, more food oriented wolves (like Spruce and Cricket) simply eat it all!

Pumpkins? What pumpkins? The few remaining bits that you see here were gone by the next day...

Wolf Haven

When I return to Olympia, I plan to volunteer at a local wolf sanctuary called Wolf Haven. On my last visit there I had a chance to snap some photos of these amazing creatures.

And again. As big as Cherokee is, you can see how narrow his chest is and how long and slender his legs are - traits characteristic of the wolf, who needs to be able to run quickly through grasses, underbrush and snow.
